Trying to catch-up on lots of stuff. I have plans to write some more in depth features about manga and graphic novels but in the mean time I continue to read and watch as much as I can. Recently I watched Season 2 of InuYasha which I borrowed from the library. I was glad to finally see this, having missed it on TV. I can see the appeal of this long running series. I like the character of InuYasha, as he reminds me of my other favourite character, Edward Elric from FMA. They both have quick tempers and are overly confident but have amazing abilities and good hearts. I am waiting to see Seasons 3 and 4 of InuYasha. I’ve read various volumes of the manga by Rumiko Takahashi but I haven’t read enough of them to be able to compare it to the anime. I understand that the final manga, InuYasha Volume 56 was released in North America this past January it will be a while before I make my way through this series, currently on Viz Big Vol 4 of InuYasha.
On the subject of Edward Elric, I finished reading Fullmetal Alchemist Vol. 24. The story is quickly reaching its climax. Only three volumes are left in the series, and I am sorry to see this series end but I hear a full length movie is in production in Japan so this may not be the end of the Elric brothers.
Another series I have been reading my way through is Yuu Watase’s Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play. I haven’t read that many shojo mangas (comics marketed for girls) this one was originally released in 1992-1996 and was translated to English starting in 1999. I am currently on Vol. 17; there are eighteen volumes, and my library only had 17 so I have to track down the last book.
On the book review front, I will to post my reviews of Bakuman 3, FMA Vol. 24 and Animal Academy Vol. 1 this week. Still on my reading lists are a couple of graphic novels which I will review for next week.
As always, I’m open to suggestions of books / anime to check out.
