How does a cat see the world? Well a couple of manga series tackle this very question.
First up is the latest volume of Chi’s Sweet Home (Vol. 5), by Konami Kanata and published by Vertical. This is a fun, happy story told from a kitten’s point of view. Each chapter explores an aspect of Chi’s life, such as understanding how to work a cat door or to what to do when stuck on a piece of tape. It is amusing to watch him try to make sense of his surroundings. This book is guaranteed to please cat lovers everywhere. The pictures are in color, making it extra attractive, and I was happy to see my two kids reading through this book together. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who loves cats.
The second cat centered book was recommended by my son, who is a big fan of the Warriors series. Warriors Tigerstar & Sasha: Into the Woods was created by Erin Hunter, written by Dan Jolly with art by Don Hudson, and is published by TokyoPop. Unlike Chi’s Sweet Home, the Warrior cats face a more dramatic existence. This series is like a soap opera staring cats. This one is a story about a pet cat, Sasha who is abandoned and has to learn how to fend for herself. She quickly learns that there are rules to living in the wild, and she falls in love with the leader of the Shadowclan. This is an interesting take on cat behaviour, and the mangas work as a compliment to the book series.
